Matching gifts

When you make a donation directly to The Seattle Times Fund for Those in Need or through your workplace giving program, many employers will match the donation. Matching gifts enables local nonprofit agencies, suppported by the Fund for Those in Need program, to do more for teens, older adults and families experiencing low-income in our community. 100% of the donations go directly to the agencies.

What is a matching donation?

A matching donation is when an organization matches donations that their employees make to nonprofit organizations, normally dollar for dollar. Matching donations furthers the impact made by employee contributions by doubling (or more) an employee’s donation.

Will my organization match my donation?

Use our online tool to see if your company offers matching donations. If your employer doesn’t come up in our tool, check with your HR team about starting a matching donation program for your organization.

How much of my donation will my employer match?

Organizations offer different matching donations. Some will match your exact donation, and others will match at a higher rate. Check your organization’s guidelines for information.

Is my matching donation tax-deductible?

Your portion of the donation is tax-deductible, but you can’t deduct your organization’s matching portion. Your employer may deduct their portion of the matched donation.

Can I request a matching donation if I have already donated?

Of course! Check with your organization if they can match the donation you already made.
